Train travel explanations please
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:44:31 AM »
Tomorrow, I'm travelling down to a village just south of Solihull by train:

Journey Details: Chester (CTR) to Crewe (CRE),dep  09:35, arr  09:54
Train Company:Virgin Trains
Mode of Transport:Train
Journey Details: Crewe (CRE) to Birmingham New Street (BHM),dep  10:22, arr  11:17Train Company:London Midland
Mode of Transport:Train
Journey Details: Birmingham New Street (BHM) to Birmingham Moor Street (BMO),dep  11:17, arr  11:39Mode of Transport:WalkJourney Details: Birmingham Moor Street (BMO) to Dorridge (DDG),dep  11:40, arr  12:04
Train Company:London Midland
Mode of Transport:Train

So, if I'm reading this correctly, I have NO time at all to walk from one train to the other at New Street, as the connection leaves at the same time as i arrive there. confused:

After mission impossible, the next connection at this mystery station (to me) Moor street,  confused: leaves just one minute after my arrival there. eeek:

Anyone care to explain what actual point I am missing here please? Shrugs:

Could be a VERY long day I fear. ::)

Stay in bed, you know it makes sense.  Well it makes more sense than that does.

Strange though, the journey planner website usually makes better allowances, I used to play beat the plan.
Well, whatever, nevermind

Looking at a map I say there's about a 300~400 metre walk. The timetable allows 22 minutes to walk that. Shouldn't be a problem.

I hate and loathe train travel.

Do the operators and ticket suppliers treat this as some sort of cynical game to see who actually flips on the station platforms with the sheer complexity and frustration of it all?  confused:

S'pose it's ok if you're a regular user, but to to the likes of me, this is just a total and utter nightmare.

New Street station just adds to the confusion too as it's always heaving and on different levels.

Actually starting to dread tomorrow now tbh. scared2:

Wouldn't it be SO much easier and <cough> helpful <cough> if they assumed that not everyone can actually fathom these mysteries out by giveing a full and detailed explanation? Banghead

Where TF is Moor Street Station btw? Shrugs:

Thanks for that...seriously UM, as the way i was thinking was that it must just be the same train that I was already on, and was therefore thinking  that i'd better just stay on it. Shrugs:

Would probably be going directly to Penzance knowing my luck. lol:

MM got  her connection wrong coming home from Lancaster a couple of months ago, and ended up in Wolverhampton instead of Liverpool Lime St.! lol:

She also recently forgot to get off the Merseyrail train in Liverpool and ended up back where she originally got on 30 minutes earlier! happy001

Well it is initially as clear as mud isn't it ey? ::)

The print out I've had to do is even less clear, just simply saying "New St to Moor St 11:17 dept, 11:39 arr."
I mean, departure and arrival....ON FOOT! Banghead
Great if you know the place and layout ::)

The train operators/ticket suppliers/whatever/whoever are the piggin' oafs. evil:

There was a young fella called Bright
Who could travel faster than light
He set off one day
In a relative way
And returned home the previous night.
