My GP told me once that if I carried on like I was, ie: drinking, eating too much junk food etc, that I would end up gaga in a care home.

I told him that was exactly what I was trying to avoid and that was why I drink too much, eat junk food etc...

I still drive the Out of Hours GP's around at the weekend and most of the patients are elderly and in care homes. It's all very well keeping people alive longer but many have dementia and no quality of life and if there is no DNR in place, if anything happens, they will be kept alive at all costs.  noooo:

If it was up to me they would just get a nice  overdose injection of morphine and slip quietly away... eveilgrin:

And yes, I know that I only get to see the bad cases and that many older people are compos mentis, but...

I went on a business trip once with my business partner and two nurses.

One of the nurses turned out to have worked at the same establishment as my business partner, after talking of those poor unfortunates mentioned above they both nodded and winked. It turns out, allegedly, that some special soup might have been fed and all turned out nicely in the end.  ;)

My Dad had the right idea.  He said to his Oncology Consultant 'will I be out of here by Wednesday'?  The Consultant said ' I think so, why'?  Dad 'Cos I'm flying to Florida'.   ;D

He also said that it was good having the catheter cos then my Sister could empty it on the plane and he needn't get up at all.   lol: lol: lol:

For at least 2 years he avoided the call by constantly going on holiday.  ;D
It's better than I ever even knew.  They say that the world was built for two.  Only worth living if somebody is loving you.  Baby now you do.
