Search for Ethernet Mains
Loads of options will appear
Then google for Powerline or Homeplug to get explanations
But in brief instead of using wireless (which doesn't go through houses very well) these little gems send a similar (but faster signal) onto your mains wiring and it appears at every mains socket in your house. Plug another adaptor in there and hey presto you have full ethernet data connection between the two. Plug one end into yur fiber optic modem and your remote computer into the other one
You do have to do a bit of malarkey to get the adaptors to recognise each other, takes seconds
