Virus's
« on: April 21, 2013, 08:11:01 PM »
Couldn't get on the internet last night. rubschin:

Decided to do a anti malware scan this evening to see if it could find anything that might be causing trouble.
Clasping at straws more than anything else tbh, as I know virtually bog all about these things....believe it or not. Shocked:

It came back with two items anyway:

Adware Zango  HKCV/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Tool bar

Game Pl.....?HKCV/ Microsoftware?Crossrider..

What are these two items, and could they have actually prevented me from getting on this thing last night?

I've destroyed them now anyway. eveilgrin:

He'll answer when he's next in no doubt.

Google is usually a good info source on problem programmes

They're prolly just irritant programmes not outright malware
Well, whatever, nevermind

Zango is your bog standard piece of adware which will occasionally redirect your browser to websites belonging to whoever has sponsored it. Check your desktop and remove the shortcut that it would have added there as well.

If memory serves me correctly (not a forgone conclusion these days) Crossrider is a framework for developing single code cloud applications across different browsers instead of having to make bespoke code for IE, Chrome etc.  rubschin:

Why don't you say what you mean?

Sadly there is no helping some people  Banghead  he posted using Chrome without having any such adware problems

Here's a clue as to why Chrome wasn't your problem:

Oh I dunno.

My well documented numptiness on these matters is actually fairly well documented, and i WASN'T blaming you personally you plant pot. ::)
I was merely clasping at straws PRIOR to the anti malware results.

If it can be considered that Google Chrome itself wasn't to blame, then I'll glady re-install it, as I did actually find it quicker and resonably easy to navigate around, so thank you for the recommendation but also, please wind yer neck in! Banghead
