Tour guides pushing tourists into Mount Vesuvius?
I took a guided tour of Italy last summer with a great and credible tour guide. Our tour guide told all of us that some of the locals around Pompeii are superstitious and on some occasions local tour guides who take up tourists to the top of the volcano will sometimes push a tourist in because of superstition. My tour guide was completely serious about this. Apparently the superstition is that if people go up to the volcano than someone has to be sacrificed to appease the mountain from anger.
I tried to look online for more details on these sacrifices and came up cold.
Does anyone have any information on this?
t seems that, "Yes, it is quite common. My guide pushed one of my children in. We got a refund though," is not an acceptable answer
