Not really into build from scratch any more. Cheaper to buy ready built, prices are silly at the moment as desktop and lapdog sales are falling dramatically as tablet sales rise. There's some absolute bargains out there (including most components, see price of 2Tb & 3Tb drives), but I cannot justify another monolith in the house.

Bigger bigger bang type PSU ordered.

Which places....... rubschin:

Hand built PC (The Beast) has just curled up and died.

Monitor went blank with no signal message, PC power button was flashing blue instead instead of solid blue, and would not power off.
After about 20 seconds, a series of clicks and then a big bang noise accompanied by nasty electrical type burning smell.

Haven't looked inside it yet.
So could be mobo fried, graphics card fried, PSU fried or a combination of any or all of those.

Autopsy tomorrow AM.

Once you have done that, Graham's needs fixing too :P

I think he's got my number.

He's bought a new lapdog too -Windows 8.  noooo: noooo: noooo:

You need the rule I got many years ago (from someone called Graham as it happens)

If someone comes up to you and says "you know electronics, can you fix me radio/D/TV etc etc?" then you ask them does it make any noise or display at all.

If they say yes (often accompanied by a hopeful smile) then say "sorry, can't fix it"

Noisy fans may be an exception to his rule

Well, whatever, nevermind
