Seeing as this is "old skool" related... Because I spent so much time reminiscing last night, I had a bit of spare time this morning, so returned to my old haunts. The junior school I use to go to... gone  sad32: ... the senior school I use to go to... in it's dying days, a new one being built on what were the school playing fields, then they're gonna knock the old school down  sad32: ... the hospital I spent more or less half my childhood in... gone  sad32: ... the above ground water pipes on the fields that we use to play on... gone  sad32: ... at least 50% of the pubs on the "top road"... gone  sad32:

My heritage has all but disappeared  sad32:  sad32:  sad32:

 sad24: sad24: sad24: happy100

This was my primary school.....................guess it just goes to prove that we was poor  sad24:
You were lucky!  We used to dream of going to school in a building.  We ad to ave lessons in a old cardboard box etc etc

Never thought of looking at Wiki for old skools doh:.  Off to have a browse for mine

Was your shoebox a ladies or mens ..... ::)
Mens or Ladies shoebox?  Luxury.  Little kiddies size shoe box

You had kiddies shoes that came in a box - now that's not poor  rubschin:

Only one of us got the shoes brand new out of the box - the other two of us had to wait to grow into them after eldest sis had grown out of them...................

Oh who remember Freeman Hardy & Willis????  Everything in my memory anyway was 19S 111d  razz:
Oh noes this was 3rd hand shoe box (why does that sound wrong?)

More seriously oh yes I remember Freeman Hardy and Willis.  Weren't they the cheaper sibling of Dolcis?  Haven't seen either for a while
Well, whatever, nevermind

I remember both of them they just disappeared a few years ago....

I was luck as I was the eldest so I mostly got new my grandmother was a tailoress , she made clothes for the rich people in the village when they went on cruise's etc. so I had everything made for me and my mum was a great knitter so all I had bought for me were shoes, socks and pants . I did get hand me downs from the children of the people mum worked for.  The first time I was allowed to go to a shop to buy a dress I was 14 for a school dance.  I was so excited I hated being different from my friends... ;D

Truth be known I had clothes of fabulous quality  coats made of top quality wool (she made mine from the offcuts of clients fabric ) fully lined etc...  but as a child you do not appreciate these things you are different to your friends...  noooo:

She even made me liberty bodices (anyone remember them) in winter...  redface:

Shoes I had a pair of the full shoe T bar sandals for summer, strong solid shoes for winter , plimsolls and wellies... That was it...

TBH it was all we needed ... Todays kids have far to much ... ::)

The cry of "could you fetch me a pair of your super sized Willies Mr Shopkeeper, I think I'm going to get wet"  brought Millets to a stunned silence.

Oh course, that David Thorne has got us all into wind up mode.

Don't worry we will stop . . .

My mother's father was a tailor - see we are sisters  cloud9:

We weren't what I could honestly describe as poor but we weren't well of either............this was avoided by both Mum and Dad working full time (which back in the 9150's was unusual for the Mum to do) ....... some memories (good and bad'ish)

Clothes were handed down the family (and across and backwards again sometimes) and appreciated

Treats were small - but things like toblorone on a Saturday (to share between the three girls) was massive

Mum was a knitter and the worst thing she ever did was knit our school vests for the Winter - being 13 flat chested (not much changed there then before any of you boys start) and wearing an orange knitted vest at PM - still  redface: redface: redface:

Both Mum and Dad worked very hard and we were the first house on our street to have a colour TV (Granada, rented weekly, of course) and all the chaps for 20 houses around came to watch the Cup Final

Feeling proud being trusted to put the 2 bob coin in the electricity meter

I was a tomboy and had my own gang - be afraid Nick, be very afraid  eveilgrin:
