I will think about that. When I was with you t'other day you were well aware that I had an ear cocked at all times for The Boy. I ran off once or twice to sort him. I am his Dad and that is my job.

Where is the balance of government and parents? I don't know. Both!? You do the same job. Not everyone does.

Vigilantes don't fear "The Authorities". We need a number of Charles Bronsons out there. It is already happening to an extent, but most of these "corrective" actions don't get reported.

That's what I mean ~ we took responsible decisions that included "going without" in order to be there for our children. Too many do not make that decision and the Government encourages them ~ in fact puts pressure on them to abandon their children for up to 12 hours a day.
Until ill-health forced my retirement Mrs S did not work. When I had to stop she still did not seek employment, despite pressure from HMG which included with-holding benefits etc, until we were sure I could manage the children. What I did not want was for her to go to work leaving me with a baby to care for and for me to die half an hour later. What would have happened to the child? And then there were the other children at school ~ what would they have come home to? Once we established that I could manage she took part time employment. Now the Govt intends to force mothers into working as soon as their children can be farmed out to paid carers. It is not right and will lead to more problems. AND it's all in the name of gathering more taxes.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Hmmm.

Yours is a case ( I won't say special). I train the Boy. I am his 6th Dad. You bring up children. We all do, What we are really on about here is those who d NOT bring up children. They let them run and go off like feral animals. What can Gordo do about that?

It's  a conundrum.

No it's not. Pay one parent, through the tax system, to stay at home. Remove the laws that say you may not smack your child. Allow teachers to smack children. Bring back the sort of discipline we knew. Make Life mean life. Don't sentence someone to 5 years and let them out after three. Give them thirty years and let them out after 25.
GET TOUGH ~ don't talk tough ~ be it.

You are slipping.

You left out National Service and hanging.

Both of which get my vote
I mostly despair

That leaves out the many single parent families................
The rest I agree with!

I did Nat Service the other day.
As for hanging ~ that's a hard one but on balance I'd say more took the drop that should have than shouldn't.
I met the hangman once. Funny enough not in Nick's Kitchen (to which Hallowed Halls I have still to gain entry)
He (The Hangman) was a very pleasant chap.

I think you are talking about Albert Pierrepoint ~ I am not.
The chap I met was an Army Staff Sergeant who had acted as assistant to A.P. and was the official Services hangman.
We met whilst he was serving at RMCT Centre Colchester and I was "Giving her Majesty a little pleasure" for 28 days following an incident involving a lot of beer and some RAF Policemen. redface:
