Thanks  evil:

You can be deported to Cyprus....  ;)
[serious question]  What happens if your Nigel gets his way?  Would Cyprus want most/some/all of the Brits out?

Which part of 'Nigel's way' requires Brits to leave Cyprus...? Shrugs:
I was only asking

Surely it's more like Cyprus would no longer be required to let Brits reside and, as Apey implies, work.

Anyone can live here all nationalities (proof of income normally needed) ......but the work situatioin would require the employer to get a permit for them ..which is unlikely as they have to lodge money with the gubberment ....

Well...

Unlike the UK, Brits in Cyprus are still considered 'Aliens'...

I have no rights here at all... in order to get my 'papers' and stay here I have to prove I can pay my way and have medical insurance which covers me for both emergencies and in-patient care...

So, I'm not really here courtesy of the EU.

Admittedly, over the age of 65 there is some reciprocal hospital care thing that allows pensioners access to the Cyprus 'NHS'.... That would have to be looked at if the UK left the EU....

That sounds a little bit worrying for some of you

I asked cos that almost tolerable git Barroso was said to be implying a threat earlier today about the over 2M Brits in EU countries and I'm thinking not in his gift, it depends what each EU state wants to do.
Well, whatever, nevermind

I can't help but think Cyprus is better off with the cash and skills of the ex-pats (given as I said above they have no rights to health care or benefits) than they would be without us...

Not strictly true Apey and BM.... Brits who are working and who pay social insurance have the same rights to medical benefits as a Cypriot, retired Brits have free access to the 'NHS' such as it is. BM doesn't get any as he doesn't pay SI as he's not working and is under pension age.

Not all nationalities are welcome here on a free basis, only EU members.

SO, it occurred to me that if Scotland goes independent they would leave the EU. All those Scots who are working freely throughout the EU could be obliged to return home.

This means we could deport the Krankies
