I can't imagine why Cameron and co would have been scared of a motion that allows the electorate to have a chance of removing their MP between election. As much as we all suspected all of the electoral promises to reform both houses were bollocks its clear now that the revolution will not only not be televised but cancelled altogether.

Not good  evil:

It's a bit unclear which part of the coalition has decided the commitment was wrong and why.  They should have put it in the Queen's speech and seen which MPs voted against it.

Well, whatever, nevermind

Well there were only 4 people involved in the decision to drop the proposal: David Cameron, George Osborne, Nick Clegg and Danny Alexander. So it would take at least 3 to make the decision so I'd say Cameron, Osbourne and Alexander but I have a sneaking suspicion that Clegg isnt blameless either and that this was set up to fail from the start. When Clegg put through the original proposal back in 2011 the general consensus was that the criteria for recall was too high but he refused to compromise on it.

Well the commentators seem to be saying it was Cameron that killed it after Clegg refused to commit to back it in the Commons unless it was amended to make it easier to recall

The actual commitment had been criticised a while back for being likely to be ineffective with that 10% threshold but there's a point of principle here and seems Cameron has made a choice.  One he may regret.

Will be interesting to see which parties if any put this forward in 2015
