It is difficult to find words that adequately express the horror I experience when I come across these evil people. We are not drones in a collective; we are individuals. We are not there to provide “societal benefit”. Fuck society. Fuck the collective. Both consist of individuals and the individual is more important than both. I for one am not on Earth to “contribute to the economy”. If I do, all well and good. if not, then too bad. My interactions with others are on the basis of mutual benefit. I have no interest in society – and I eschew the collective, for I absolutely abhor the concept of the common good for there lies the road to totalitarianism. The evil we faced in the twentieth century has not gone away, it has merely lain dormant and has resurfaced in socialised healthcare where our lifestyle choices are held against us and our taxes are taken from us and used to harangue, hector and bully us over what we imbibe and how we live our lives. If ever there was an argument that the NHS should go, this is it.

If that fool Longrider got his way the NHS would be got rid of, zeroed, scrapped.  Sick people having to beg for any care, no vaccinations, and presumably you'd bleed to death if you have an accident.   rubschin:

Of course governments are inefficient, of course they spend money on things some would not want money spent on.  They have to be accountable to 60 million people and they have to show to each and every one of them that they have done the right thing and considered every view every step of the way.

So yes governments waste money compared to anarchy or dictatorships.  On the whole it's a price worth paying.

And like it or not the mentioned foreign aid budgets in sum are equal to just five years growth in NHS spending or under a years growth in state pensions.  There are tough choices to be made and they are not going to get easier.  Right now the USA baby boomers keep the drug companies developing more and more hyper expensive niche cures and imho we should not promise a bottomless pit to continue same here.
Well, whatever, nevermind

There wouldn't be 'nothing' if the NHS was scrapped.... That is just another Straw Man...

There are plenty of better ways of doing it than having the state run everything...

Have you ever run your own business...?

No, so what?

Longrider wants to get rid of the NHS.  Why would we applaud that when he says nothing of how he'd replace it?  IF he'd replace it.    I suggest I got it right that he wouldn't when in that very quoted article he says  "My interactions with others are on the basis of mutual benefit. I have no interest in society – and I eschew the collective,"

If you took away the NHS tomorrow the market would step in and replace it...

If you'd run your own business you would understand how much more efficient and reactive the new privatised NHS would be.

Yes if you were rich or had never been ill before you could get a next treatment

And if you weren't you would just have to starve or die.   Even the USA realised long ago you can't have a society and run healthcare like veterinary treatment.
Well, whatever, nevermind

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha!

You do make I larf Mr. Steve!  lol:

£95B on state healthcare....

...all from the hard-earned of taxpayers.... Including those 'too poor' to afford private care....

...and you don't think a private system could do better for less....  lol:

You should come to Cyprus and see how a competitive private health care system works in practice....

I live in a teeny-tiny village yet there are two fully equipped clinics (complete with ambulances) competing for my ill health...

It costs me just €20 to see a doctor...

Competition means that the finest health care is available at reasonable price... and I am not paying for people to have their breasts enlarged/reduced or their stomach stapled or their fanny sewn up so they appear to be a virgin....

So presumably you are not paying for the treatment as per the OP

Actually I have to say I am very confused about what you are advocating.  Is the Cyprus system like the Longrider vision of no public healthcare at all?
Well, whatever, nevermind

You can't get your head around a world where the state does not provide for all of your needs can you...? pathead:

I think not.  I post in reply 10 that we have to accept that there will have to be limits on the NHS and now you accuse me of saying the NHS has to cover everything?

 rubschin:

Now I'd rather have a local view than go googling as to whether Cyprus has your Longrider vision of healthcare or not.  I had heard the whole of the EU had public healthcare to a level, maybe I heard wrong.  So what is it?
Well, whatever, nevermind

Hardly!  lol:

You post in #10: -

Quote from: Steve
The NHS is costing £4,000 a year for every person working in the UK, that's more than the average earner is paying in income tax.  A limit is going to be reached if not already.

A Straw Man argument if ever I read one!

As I pointed out - you pay a vast amount of tax in various forms which all go in a huge pot that the government spends as it sees fit...

As for Cyprus - Google all you wish.... It is clear that you will ignore my input on the subject as it does not fit your agenda....

Suffice to say... private health care provides better service at lower cost than the 'NHS'...
