The dead boy's mother and that local rag are being at best disingenuous. 

He was a gang member thug that had previously attacked the defendants and on the day went after them on the back of an e-bike with a baseball bat.  This kid that may or may not be released soon did not stab the deceased who was stabbed in the arm holding the baseball bat. 

No angel but no determined killer.
