A friend calls about meeting for lunch in London in a few weeks. I say fine.

She says that a mutual friend has confirmed a date with me and reports that I have suggested "meeting in a bookshop in Piccadilly which has expensive wine". I am mystified on several fronts. What bookshops serve wine? When did I suggest this?

I have made no such suggestion or arrangement. Indeed, a careful check of e mails reveals that I have had no contact with this person since October
