possibly make the user experience any worse...?
You get your brand new, shiny laptop in a beautifully presented carry case/box...
And you open it up and it is just bursting with shinyness....
And then you are ordered to charge the fucker for three hours...
And then you finally get to switch it on and it spends hours (literally) downloading and installing updates before you can use it...
It wasn't unexpected but imagine buying any other product and having the same experience...? "Thanks for the cheque Mr. Customer, here are the keys of your new motor... of course you can't drive it yet as we have to charge the battery... and then we'll have to service it and put in oil and water and stuff... can you come back in two days...?"
