Nod's mum:  When I am gone all these (gestures to contents of china cabinet) will be yours. THey have been handed down in my family since the 18th century and are worth thousands!

We pack them and take them to the local Fine Art Auctioneers (have appointment)

Auction person examines them closely

Auction person: the charity shops are closed at the moment, so you can wait until they reopen or there is a skip over there

I remember being punished as a kid by doing the dusting... In Mum and Dad's bedroom there was a big glass plate with two glass candle holders and a glass trinket holder thing. I'm sure it is worthless but I can never get rid of it...  noooo:

  ;D

It's sad but old people think what cost them an arm and a leg years ago is worth a fortune now.  My mother was the same when we cleared her house when she went in a home.  Surprisingly good condition Ercol furniture gets good money

If anyone wants some 1920's decorated tea sets (apparently they were given at weddings) I've got several in the loft
Well, whatever, nevermind

My mum had several sets of plates and stuff. All were vile.

I kept some tiny glasses my mum said were worthless but are quite charming imho and the antique spirit heated kettle her mother used to polish endlessly when we visited her.- looking at it as I type

I also have my Dad's war time RAF uniform, couldn't let that go to recycling.  And of course a ton of tools from me dad, his father and some maybe older.  Some I've even used
Well, whatever, nevermind

Nod's mum's house is definitely "old lady" place (plastic flowers and pics of Jesus everywhere). ON a brighter note the first offer is £20K above the asking price, which seems suspicious  rubschin:

Could be genuine.  We sold both my mum's and Mrs K's uncle's houses for more than the asking prices.  Estate agents are sometimes really brilliant
Well, whatever, nevermind

I sold my London flat for more than the asking price after a bidding war, but the first offer?  rubschin:

Nod calls. He sounds anguished

Nod: I don't know what I have done to my phone but when people call I cannot hear anything they say
Me: You must have turned the volume down. YOu need to go into SETTINGS and turn it up
Nod: Are you there?
Me: YOU MUST HAVE TURNED THE VOLUME DOWN. GO INTO SETTINGS AND TURN IT UP
Nod: What? Are you there?
 facepalm:

I hung up
