Nod's cleaner has tested positive for Covid. Nod's response to this news is to wear rubber gloves at all times

and then do the cleaning himself

Nod calls and wails: The boiler is going mad and the whole place is like a sauna, I have called the boiler repair man

Me: put the kettle on

I go round and look at the wall mounted control box. Dead.

Me: Have you got two AA batteries

Nod rummages in a drawer and finds some. I replace the batteries and reset the temperature control to 21 degrees, as Nod requests.  The boiler goes off. Nod panics. I suggest he opens some windows.

10 minutes later

Nod: It's come back on!!

Me: Correct

5 minutes later

Nod: It's gone off again!! I will have to recall the repair man!!

Me: Do you know what a thermostat does?

Nod: Not really

 

[Barman]

Nod is getting his flat rewired and then redecorated. He plans to move out and stay in a hotel for a week or so while this is done (once this becomes possible).

Yesterday he was fretting about his new laptop. I am worried it might get stolen while I am away, he said.

I suggested he take it with him.

"But it won't work anywhere else."

A bit of questioning establshed that he was not aware that WiFi is available almost everywhere, including restaurants, hotels, buses, trains and so on
