« on: July 17, 2019, 12:05:30 PM »
Just been to the supermarket and used their Smart shopping system where you pick up a scanner ad use it to scan the items as you shop then check yourself out.

Good idea but it's a shoplifters paradise  noooo:

Forunately I'm an honest chap

RFID  shrugs:

Radio Frequency IDentification...

You put a teeny-tiny transponder on every item in the store...

Then, the customer just chucks it in their trolley as normal - in their shopping bags if they so choose...

Then when they leave the store they walk through a 'scanner' which reads all the IDs and tells them how much they owe...

You would be walking behind him tossing RFID chips into his basket when he wasn't looking...  whistle:

We just love the smart shopping systems.  Tesco, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Asda all work very well

They do make algorithm based semi random checks, if you 'remove' several items from the trolley seems you are far more likely to get checked and I'd be less than shocked to find out they use analysis of shopper movements in store to target searches.

Well, whatever, nevermind

It's been trialled in the UK but no one seems to be deploying it.  When shoplifters have been using RFID shielding bags for years it's not hard to see what can possibly go wrong
