I wanted to vote ?yes? and execute them?

Problem is, because of the bizarre way that the prison service is organised they?ll have to be sent to a high security prison before they are re-categorised and shipped out to an open jail.

That means they?ll be spending their time locked-up with murderers robbers, drug dealers and other hard-line criminals. Chances are they?ll learn a trade from them or even pick up a drugs habit?

Given that they will only serve a few months and most of that in an open prison it seems about right.

It's not as if they were kids .... as for not being able to go to Uni this term ... he should have thought of that. University is for learning to become a responsible adult not a playground for feeble minded vandals.
His offer of a place should be withdrawn as he clearly will not be an asset to any educational establishment.

They should have just stolen one of the trains, they'd have got a shorter sentence.

I think it is harsh.   But I also think that it is about time for harsh penalties because with all the fudging with sentencing it'll work out about right in the end.

I am more bothered by the mainstream thinking about penalties out there, everyone thinks there should be a clampdown on anti-social behaviour but every time it happens there is a hue and cry about what a little angel he was and how it is going to ruin his promising life.  ::)  Same applies to immigrants, nobody wants them, but just try deporting one and everybody lines up to protest at the inhumanity of it.

We really are our own worst enemies.

As I keep saying, if you don't want to risk the consequences of what you choose to do - don't do it.

Aggressive sentencing and fixed penalties inasmuch as you actually serve the time you were sentenced to is a good way forward.
