I have never claimed it is 6%, I likely pointed out that at that time of known cases with a known outcome 6% were fatal, it is now 3% Worldwide and in the UK it is actually higher which bring into doubt that 1% figure for which there is very little evidence.

Errrrr, yes you did... ::)

And at the time you chose figures that we well out of date... Using the current Worldmeter figures it is ~2%.

And there is plenty of evidence from the WHO and others that the IFR is <1%
No I did not say the IFR was 6%.  And the current World meter figure for known outcomes is 3%   The key unknown as ever is what proportion of cases are actually being detected.

Now are we going to be allowed to discuss this topic or will it or I be closed down?

670,454 deaths out of 11,387,178 Cases which had an outcome.  Sure looks like 6%

. . .They fail to mention the level of bed/ICU occupancy in a normal year...
They don't headline them but they are available  https://data.spectator.co.uk/city/nhs

Indicates we have roughly twice as many people in ICU as we had capacity in a 'normal' year

Well, whatever, nevermind

They conflate 'dying with' with 'dying of' Covid.* . .
The high correlation with the independently collated excess deaths numbers strongly suggests the measure is as accurate as reasonably possible and if anything under reporting the true issue https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/bulletins/deathsregisteredweeklyinenglandandwalesprovisional/weekending8january2021

Without getting drawn into the general scrum here, my understanding gleaned from talking with the medical professionals in the family, is that the morbidity rate from Covid is not much higher than the usual, seasonal rate from 'flu and pneumonia.
The problem is that significantly larger numbers require hospitalisation in order to recover, and the resources are unable to cope if the infection rate gets too high.
In 1968, the 'Hong Kong' flu was comparable in its rate of tranmission to Covid, but the pulmonary effects were not quite so severe, meaning most who caught it recovered at home.
Most of the peak load was on local GPs and not hospitals.

Well said. It's notable that the current Gov slogan is stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives. Putting the health service before lives.

Wrong thread, I know, but the snow is really chucking it down now, so I decided to walk the 400 yards or so to get "supplies" before the pavements were too deep in it.

In those 800 yards, I heard something I haven't heard for months. Laughter. Children laughing as they threw snow balls at each other and started building snow men. Or snow persons for the easily offended. Families laughing together as they slipped and slid along the roads. Everyone absolutely loving it and seeing that there is a real world out there and it can be beautiful. Not scared by the incessant fear and warnings and misery peddled by the MSM. Proper smiles, not the nervous half-smiles of the scared for very little reason into somehow thinking being outside was as dangerous as stickig a fork into a wall socket.

Quality of life - being enjoyed in the here and now and not tainted by the bogeyman and his relentless drive for further restrictions, further gloom, further despair.

I think for a lot of people, quality of life counts for more than longevity.

lol:  and many a true word spoken in jest

Well they started with Ignore it - Carrie must have her Baby Shower - Its only like Flu

Comparisons with flu are very problematic.  With the pre-existing immunity, most people exposed to flu never show symptoms let alone go to hospital.  Covid with its negligible levels of population immunity, killed over 5 times as many in England last year as the typical annual flu death rate.

We're approaching 20% of the population either had it or on a very focussed basis been vaccinated so IMHO that very much calls into question continuing lockdown as is after next week

But that doesn't invalidate calling lockdown on Jan 3rd.

Well, whatever, nevermind
