"Not sure as he is on holiday in France and said he needs to call you asap"

That's awful news Nick especially for Nod and you.  We've all laughed and sometimes despaired at Nod's follies but he's your friend and there's clearly much more to him than just his daft days.  Hopefully the prediction is unduly pessimistic and he has many days of good and pain free health.
