Silence of the Lambs
« on: September 17, 2007, 11:30:09 AM »
In the Blair days Government ministers were always out and about, screwing up. Ruth Kelly, Jowell, Beckett, Cook, Jock, Straw, Balls, Johnstone. The list is endless.

Has anyone else noticed that they have all vanished? OK, "Darling" (sic) has been dragged out of his lair over Northern Rock but the rest have gone totally silent. Have we had anything from anyone? I can't even recall who the Foreign Secretary is (schoolboy, I think). NHS? Nope. "COmmunites"? Nope. Health? "Nope"

Are they all under the Number 10 patio?

What is going on?

Summer Holidays dear boy The House does not reconvene for some weeks yet. Then you try shutting them up.

Summer recess 2007

The House rose on Thursday 26 July 2007 and will return on Monday 8 October 2007

Mind you we do have the joy of the Conferences yet to come before they go back.
Errr Actually I think the LibDems have started their conference but nobody seems bothered.

Parliament may be off, but these bastards are on huge salaries running F&M, the NHS, Police, Schools, Tax and suchlike.

I think GB is keeping them stifled. AS we might imagine................

As I recall this one raises its head at every Parliamentary Recess on just about every board on the net.
The MPs (and Ministers are fist and foremost MPs) do have constituencies to run as well. Like it or loath it they are elected to do the job by the majority of those who turned out on polling day.
Yes I agree ~ they are wastrels, they are professional politicians more now than ever before BUT they are not sitting on huge estates shooting grouse, shagging village virgins and generally having a high old time as in the past.
What do they do during the recess .... well they generally have a holiday, like the rest of us, and then they tour their constituencies and talk to people, remortgage their houses, rebuild their chimneys, write snotty letters to companies, research matters of interest or things they have been asked to look into and plot how to advance their careers. Just like us in fact.
Why don't they come and talk to Mr Nick, Mr Snoopy or Mr Berek? Well they would if you were a party activist or if you have something they want..
Mine does come and talk to me .... he was on the 'phone earlier today .... because he wants to put something in the magazine.
