More from the tellybox (I must stop watching political programmes). Discussion of the link between poverty and crime. Even an interview with an ex shoplifter who maintains that he took to shoplifting because of poverty and having nothing.

Bollocks! He's a criminal and uses poverty as an excuse.

Personally I believe modern society engenders a sense of entitlement that means a person feels that if they have less than someone else they are can take what ever they wish.

Christ! I grew up in poverty, one of five children in a single parent family (Father died when I was six) We lived on charity and handouts but never turned to crime. We learnt a sense of right and wrong from our mother. Didn't turn to crime.

We were extremely poor... Ice on the windows in winter (inside) of our council flat, Dad had to work six days a week (compulsory overtime on Saturday), Mum had multiple cleaning jobs to fit around school, Mum had to make our clothes, etc. Never turned to crime...

Correlation doesn't equal causation....

Perhaps the most 'income deprived' neighbourhoods are shitholes because of the people that live there, not because they are income deprived...?

I'm guessing that if we gave these people stacks of cash (which we do) they would still be shit holes with high crime...

Anyway, I believe it comes down to a simple choice: "Do I do what is moral and right or not.
