Pence has been in politics more than long enough to know that words can easily be taken out of context. The masterclass I was on about was how to make yourself an easy target. He could just as easily have said something along the lines of how he is aware of the current state of things and that there are valid concerns but containing the situation in Ukraine is his primary focus at the present time. The usual type of political non answer that seems to be the standard these days instead of making it that easy for people to edit his response.
