Apart from the obvious,diabetes can effect eyes and feet apparently. I have to have my eyes checked, not for ability to read, but what they refer to as Retinopathy Checks every year. At the same time they also check my feet as loss of sensation in your feet can be indicative of further problems. The girl that checked mine a couple of weeks ago said I had "Nice feet ~ very unmasculine"  Not sure what she meant or why it pleased me but it did.
