Minister aims to show exams are not easier

Sep 26 2007 by Maria Breslin, Liverpool Echo

SCHOOLS secretary Ed Balls today aimed to the end allegations that exams are getting easier.

He announced plans to split the current exam watchdogs into two independent bodies which will regularly report direct to Parliament rather than to ministers.

He told the Labour conference the move would ensure no-one could claim results were being artificially massaged to pump up pass rates.

I want to stop young people being told that the GCSE or A-level grades they are proud of are not worth what they used to be.

?I want parents, universities, employers and young people themselves to be confident that standards are being maintained.?

He said the fact that the existing Qualifications and Curriculum Authority reports to ministers rather than to Parliament makes it harder to demonstrate that it is acting independently.

Yes ~ That'll be the Miss Snoopy who is 14yo, top of the year group for English and spells Bully as Bulie would it? The very same Miss Snoopy who is in top set for Maths but doesn't know any table beyond the six times?
But Hey! Why should she?  Her computer has a calculator and spell checker  innit ::)
