Accidental 999 calls
« on: October 09, 2007, 10:01:28 AM »
I've heard complaints about folk 'accidentaly' ringing the emergency services from their mobbys whilst it's in their pocket. Yea right I thought. The chances of those numbers being 'accidentally pressed, followed by the green 'send' button must be pretty remote....I thought, until yesterday. ::)
It happened to me as i noticed whilst trawling for a number I'd earlier rang. eeek:
10:37 today (yesterday) 999!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! scared:

Don't know how long I was connected to them but I was mighty shocked tbh.
What is the point in having a 'lock keys' button, if it's totally by passed by dialling 999?  noooo:

Because the idea is if you are in an emergency situation ie being raped then the fewer buttons you have to press the better.

Yea I know about the saving of time arguement, but just how long does it take to unlock your phone? 1 second? 2 seconds? noooo:

Their is obviously no point in the emergency services telling us to lock our phones then really is their? The locking system should....imo....include locking out 999 to save all this grief.
I was genuinely upset about this yesterday as it must be so damned annoying for them.

No point at all!

It isn't so much the time factor as the panic factor really.

Is it just me or is she doing this deliberately?

I suppose the answer is to have one of those trendy flip top phones that conceals all the buttons.
I'm going to get in touch with Nokia to see if their is some way of preventing this happening again.
Must surely be a simple soft ware issue? rubschin:

Perhaps they will suggest keeping your phone in a holder attached to your trouser belt rather than in your trouser pocket. Simple but effective measures usually work best.
