Roadworks
« on: October 09, 2007, 02:20:01 PM »
Took SF to B and long Q in Slough this morning…

Bloody massive traffic jam on the way into Slough… could have crawled on my belly faster.  noooo:

Eventually approached some signage which indicated there were ‘road works’ and a lane closed that was causing the hold up for the traffic going from Windsor to Slough and coming on and off the M4 at Junction 6.

Finally got thorough all the traffic to find some bastard cutting the grass on the central reservation! Lane closed and traffic chaos for half-a-day including peak travelling hours for that!  Banghead

Cut it at night or concrete it over and paint it green FFS – how much brain does it take?  cussing:

I'm afraid this doesn't surprise me one bit Barman. I think you're actually quite lucky to get to the end of the queue and find somebody working. I sat in the traffic jam from hell on the A55 last September just to find a perfectly usable lane of tarmac coned off and no workman in sight.

My current bugbear is the "temporary traffic light". Half the time they're either not working, the rotation is completely inappropriate for the volume and direction of traffic, or some prick is sitting blocking the road with his site truck while he chit-chats to his marras about the best way to dump a pile of sand. As with your case, more often than not the road is blocked to allow people to carry out work to verges or - in the case of Leadgate, near me - to replace paving stones with cobbles, in some vain attempt to "polish the turd" that is the murder capital of County Durham.
