999 breaks
« on: October 12, 2007, 11:40:50 AM »
The mentality of some people is beyond me.

"Police have issued a warning asking fans of Coronation Street to not call them during the soap's advert breaks because they are too busy.

Forces have been swamped with calls during the show's breaks because avid soap addicts wait until there is a break in the programme before they pick up the phone to report crimes.

Grampian Police in particular have found it a real problem and have released a plea asking people to call them during quieter times so that they can deal with the enquiries more effectively.

Manager Karen McMillan said: "Don't try during the ad breaks of popular programmes like Coronation Street. Everyone else is doing the same thing."

I mean, would you wait for an ad break before dialing 999, you know, in an emergancy type situation?

Just as well there are no ad breaks in Eastenders.

Seriously, this does take the biscuit doesn’t it?????  Banghead

I wonder if any of them are calling for the fire brigade and asking if they can put the fire out before the break finishes…   noooo:

If they are reporting a burglary, theft, criminal damage, matricide or some other minor crime, the fact that a copper "might be round in the next day or so" hardly makes the Corrie-watching classes think it is being treated as an emergency.
I mostly despair

Typical journo-toss. Is there any proof these people are purposely waiting till the advert break to report a crime, or could they simply be more inclined to look out of the window during an ad break?

More likely that they go into the kitchen to make a cuppa during the ad breaks and find the back door open and the Microwave etc gone.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.
