Fuel prices ... an Idea!
« on: October 14, 2007, 03:32:23 PM »
BM   If you don't want this on the main board, feel free to move it to Petrol heads, but I hope more than a few people will do this.   Please feel free to copy and paste it into an e-mail and pass it on to all your friends.   cloud9:

This might be worth a try, if you believe it can work please read and send on to your friends and contacts.

See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it. We are hitting 97p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1.05 a litre. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May ! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the market place not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!!

Now, don't whimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... ..
  THREE HUNDRED MILLIONPEOPLE!!!

Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! Acting together we can make a difference If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and Esso

Good idea, but flawed sadly.

Most muppets, especially the younger ones, don't give a toss how much it is, as we're paying for it anyway, in the form of government handouts and 'loans' from parents.

And who does this idiot think is refining petrol for his list of "preferred" suppliers?

The truth is simple ~ fuel is taxed far too highly in this country. Change the government not the oil companies who have no control over the level of taxation in the UK and who also have no control over the basic price of oil ~ that is in the hands of OPEC.

BTW BP filling stations in this area are far and away the cheapest.  The "preferred" suppliers in the list rate as having higher prices in North Wales at least.

The whole idea of chain letters, chain emails etc is discredited and has been for years .... the answer lies in the ballot box not my in box.

Used to cost me a couple of quid to fill my first car (Ford Prefect). My first mini held a fiver's worth and would carry me and mine for about 370 miles for that but even then it was cheaper to motor on the continent when I could fill the tank for about £3. Some things never change.... the UK has always suffered over taxation of fuel.
But you know what they say ~ If you have to question the cost of the fuel you can't afford the car.

Well not Shell or BP unless it happens by accident. Most, if not all, of the budget fuel suppliers acquire their supplies from the Rotterdam Spot Market where surplus supplies are traded.   Were there a sustainable boycott of any particular company there would be an increase in available supplies as they would have to sell it somewhere, but it would drive up lower end pricing.  It is very difficult to engage a cartel.  This is exactly why there are no realistic alternatives to oil products and won't be until supplies run out.  By that time the suppliers of oil will have seized control of whatever options emerge to replace oil.  Fuel by the very nature of its value is one of the greatest profit generators of our time. they also seek to restrict renewable and nuclear sources as a matter of principle.

The problem has always been the desire by people to apply pressure to the oil giants and government without inconveniencing themselves, which is futile. Pressure on Government to moderate taxation by the oil companies would be many, many times greater and effective than consumers moaning about it but buying anyway.

The ballot box is not an option as there is no party standing on a reducing fuel duty ticket.
There is not a democratic route open to pursue.

That leaves militancy as the only option, and as people can't be arsed to stir themselves, it's just another waste of time.   The government and the oil companies know that and have the resources to freeze us for as long as it takes.

It's really rather depressing to consider that about 80% of the price of a litre of petrol is tax - VAT & Duty  cry:

D'you know how much it costs a señorita in Venezuela to fill up her Fiat Uno?

About $1 or $2. Between 50p and a pound  cry: cry:
