Leaf blowers
« on: October 30, 2007, 09:28:36 AM »
What is the point of these things? There is council operative outside using one to blow leaves off the pavement and into the gutter. (A brush would do the same job) . As he moves along the road the breeze blows the leaves, er, back onto the pavement.

Now a leaf vacuum sucker would be a reasonable idea, but a blower?

Who remembers the old cylinder vacuum cleaners with a 'suck' and 'blow' end?

Apart from entertaining the kids balancing a ping-pong ball on a column of air from the 'blow' end, they also featured in a high proportion of Casualty visits for bachelors, allegedly. redface:

We had one of those when I was a kid. I too used it for illicit purposes. I once used it to stick a cream cake to the ceiling. I wrongly thought that no one would notice cry:

Apparently, according to the gardener, they cause fewer back injuries through strain. You blow all the leaves into a pile and then scoop them up.

You have a gardener? eeek:

And anyway, this bloke isn't scooping them up, just blowing them from one place to another.

And what is wrong with a broom?

Not me. My Mum runs the urbanisation in Spain. They have three gardeners and one is in charge of the leaf blower. It's this year's new toy.

The broom apparently, causes back injury because of the repetative action. The blower doesn't.

 cussing:
Our next door neighbour has a gardener that, erm gardens for them once a week…

They have a complete set of noisy tools including a petrol lawn mower, petrol strimmer and petrol leaf blower – it sounds like some karting event when they all get going.  Banghead

Bollocks to back strain – they’ll die of some bizarre lung disease or asphyxiation.  cussing:

Did my rapturous welcome put him off or did he log-in to the wrong place by mistake?  rubschin:
