Do you not feel that this is all a matter of:
(i) Where you grew up/went to school
(ii) What your parents used to say
(iii) Popular expressions used where you work/socialise
(iv) a sure sign of our mutual boredom.

I've always liked "Nutty as a fruit cake" but nobody seems to use that one anymore.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Misunderstood

Mad as a hatter, ~ as a March hare. etc.

I really must protest.  These damned recipes are beginning to pop up willy-nilly all over the place and as a wilfully confirmed 'stranger to a kitchen' I am getting fed up with them.

If I have to put up with computers in the computer section and motors in the petrol-head shop (even though I have a diesel  evil: ) then these wretched recipes should go into a cooking slot which I can avoid with gusto and two veg.

Don't you mean "steam radio"?

Anyway, so happy you have got out of your turkeys.

Steam radio as you say. Dials marked not only with the wavelengths, but "Hilversum", "Luxembourg", "Droitwich" and other exotic places, but never "Berlin" in later years.

I am glad you are understanding and supportive about the Turkeys, I was planning to give you one at Christmas but I suppose you will have to make do with a simple Goose now.  cry:
