The Battle of the Somme

My Grandad was one of the lucky ones to make it back from there. Very interesting documentary on Sky last night, here it is on youtube in parts. Well worth watching

Modern war. The first world war had most of the bells & whistles.

Tanks, machine guns, air power, chemical weapons, propaganda, radio, submarines, mines, torpedoes etc.

No nukes but otherwise they checked most of the boxes. They just had the dubious honour of being the first with many of these new toys.

My Grandad was killed there, he wasn't  actually a combatant, he was camping nearby and went over to complain about the noise
