Nintendo warns of Wii shortages
« on: November 15, 2007, 08:34:00 AM »
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7094069.stm

EVERY single year we get these "must have toys" and then a follow up story about shortages.

These major manufacturers do not get to be as rich as they are by under-estimating demand and if demand does not come up to expectations they "create" a shortage.

When will the Great British Public realise that it is all a scam to boost sales?
I have never met anyone who couldn't get what they wanted to buy their kids, if they really tried.  cussing:

Wii consoles have been in short supply since they made them though.

Wii consoles have been in short supply since they made them though.

So the Manufacturers claim. Now did they get to be a major international manufacturing/trading company by producing too few products or did they "engineer" a "shortage" to ensure high demand?

Interesting psychology at work here. New book on the subject is due out soon ~ previewed on Radio Four.
Studies conducted have shown that if you see an advert that says "Our operators are waiting to take your call" most people instinctively think of a bevy of bored women sitting around knitting, filing their nails etc waiting for the phone to ring. If however the ad says "If you cannot get through first time please keep calling as demand is high" most people would think "I must get that item" and start phoning.

I am convinced that these pre Christmas shortages are engineered, with the collusion of the story hungry and bugger the truth press, to create additional sales. It happens too often to be a coincidence.

The Little Boy who cried Wolf! comes to mind

If it had only been the last couple of months I would be inclined to agree with you. In fact I might anyway as I do suspect you are right. But how long have they been released for now? Absolutely yonks!

'zactly ~ released yonks ago and perhaps not selling as well as they hoped so "Lets have a pre Christmas 'this is the must have toy' and there are not enough of them to go round" scare. Crafty b@st@rd your average Jap ~ you ask GOS.  He knows about them.

Or so they say!   whistle:
"Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Well, someone had to say it!

I did kind of want one. But I can't be doing with waiting lists. Some weekends I wake up and decide right I want one today and I can never find one.  redface:
