Am I allowed to comment that OH has eloquently summed up exactly what I was trying, in my pathetically poor fashion, to say?

Indeed. And I would add that your eloquence is generally top dollar, you silly old Hector.

Ignore the baldy barman, Beagle. The ingested hair tonic has affected what he loosely calls his brain...

Regardless of your feelings for the islamic government there what we have done is impose our vallues upon that country in order to force a release that shouldnt have been granted. It doesnt matter how stupid we may think the law was the fact is that she broke the law, how many people from the UK work or have worked in islamic countries over the years, most of them have realised that anything that may offend the religion would be dangerously stupid even before recent events. Given the degree of media coverage Islam has had over the last few years, in particular the extremist nutbags, anyone with half a brain would have at the very least consulted other members of staff before declaring the bear was to be given the same name as their prophet. If nothing else a sense of self preservation should have kicked in and stopped her.

And before anyone says that something like that would never happen here, dont forget we still have blasphemy laws. They just havent been enacted in years because this is a secular state and religion hasnt any real direct power here.

I reckon blowing up busses and tube trains, or trying to, is a tad illegal too.

True but that is terrorism pure and simple.

It is only the most bizarre interpretation of ‘the law’ that she has broken – the trial and guilty verdict are a ridiculous farce.

Remember this is the country where there is the ongoing genocide in Darfur, 2˝ million displaced, thousands dying of starvation yet the government is picky about the nationality of peace keeping troops…

It is a corrupt, disgusting regime that has no right to impose a prison sentence on anybody that has gone there to help their foetid country while they should be striving to help their own citizens…

They disgust me.
