Q. What's the difference between a blackhead and a whitehead?
A. Well, besides the colour of course, the difference is the way that the spot develops. Sometimes your pores are blocked at the surface of the skin by oil. With sun exposure the oil turns black and appears on your skin as a blackhead. When oil is trapped lower down in the skin, because of a build-up of oil and dead skin cells, a whitehead forms. If a blackhead or whitehead becomes infected from the bacteria that lives on the surface of your skin, the infection can also erupt into a pimple or yucky pus-filled cyst, which is why stopping yourself from picking and squeezing your spots is SO important!
