Fuel Protest today!

I checked with Barman and he says it is ok for me to post this link.

These guys tried to organise a Fuel Protest in several areas of the UK today. It did not go well. It was very cold and some of then had been told that they could not attend as they had to go Christmas Shopping. There was very little publicity.

If you, like me are outraged at the way fuel prices are going up, you could at least look in on their web page and give them a bit of support. (Where is Kim when you need her?)  Perhaps you could even get along to one of the next protests they organise. I am going to try. whistle:

Very little publicity? Google reveals 216 separate news articles on the subject.

Quote
Protestors have been gathering at oil refineries to demonstrate against the recent rises in fuel prices.

Made up of hauliers, farmers and motorists, the demonstrators say they will not be trying to blockade the refineries.

But the demonstrations have attracted criticism. The Freight Transport Association said: "Protests like this are not the answer. This is the busiest transport weekend of the year and it is not helpful to industry or consumers if deliveries are disrupted."

You will all note that not every organisation agrees with this course of action and that may have a bearing on the alleged low turn out. IMHO You'd do better to lobby your MP and vote for a party that doesn't levy such high taxes on fuel next time round. Standing outside a refinery in the cold is only going to bring a rare smile to the face of the cause of this problem

I agree with the hound…

The fuel protests only serve to divert attention away from the real cause of the misery – the tax. Gordon must be pissing himself with the attention being drawn away from his incompetent government.

Best thing the protesters could do is demand that the fuel companies put the price of their product on the pump and show the tax separately – that would open a few minds…

You'd think it would be in the oil companies' intersts to do this.....

Personally I don't care about the rise in fuel prices. My mileage is low and my income high enough for it not to worry me. It is mainly a tax so I would prefer that tax to rise even further and income tax to drop. Same with the tax on cigarettes.

More indirect taxes I say.
