But that doesn't answer my question ~ just waves a willy of indeterminate size.  ;)

Don't you have to tell us what you are paying for?

If you pay for 1MB I should keep your mouth shut.

If you pay for 8MB then it might be worth moaning, although I seem to remember being told it was "up to" the quoted speed, so 0.001MB would still be compliant. evil:

The PC I'm using (my brothers) should be up to 8MB, so I wil give him the good news when he gets back from his holiday! Contention rates should also be borne in mind.

Wot?
You don't work for PC World do you?

Please remember that such PCs skills as I possess and any accompanying technical knowledge have been entirely self taught since retirement. I look to those with training and knowledge to explain properly ~ usually in vain  Banghead

Good god no! (Although I do find their purple shirts rather fetching...) - contention rates simply is how many people using the same cable as you are using it at the same time. So, if you are meant to have 8MB and you are the only one in your vicinity using it, then you should get 8MB. If seven others are using it, then you will probably be down to about 1MB. How far away from the exhange also has a bearing.
