I arrived at the station this morning to find that the reopening of Liverpool Street station hadn't happened as promised. It had been closed over the holiday period for major engineering work which has over run. The same has happened on the West Coast route.
I got to work about 45 minutes later than expected, others in the office had even longer delays. At the moment the station is still shut although a limited service is expected to start later this afternoon. So I'm certain to get home late and the train will be packed. To cap it all the fares have been increased today.
As these sort of works always seem to over run perhaps the planners should set more realistic goals and stop being so optimistic about how much work can be got through in a given period.
LinkNetwork Rail has apologised so I guess that's all right then
