Water pressure
« on: January 15, 2008, 08:01:57 PM »
2008 does not seem to be going well  noooo:

Last week it was a power cut which, let's face it throws everything into mild chaos. Although with no traffic lights, la circulation switched from aggressive to timid  lol:

This week it's water pressure; or rather, lack of it. It all started yesterday when an immediate neighbour knocked on the door to enquire whether I had steam coming out of the cold tap as well  eeek: eeek:  Fortunately I did not but we sensed something was not as it should be  8)
It turns out that because Thames Water had been told of a leak in the vicinity, they had reduced the pressure locally thus causing our main tanks to drain (usage exceeding supply)... good move, Thames Water ::)

Currently, with the leak allegedly fixed, the tanks are beginning to refill and hopefully normal service will be resumed tomorrow but in the interim I've learned lots of interesting things about bars of pressure (Barman take note ;)) and the ongoing decline of utilities in the Metropolis, lack of investment in infrastructure and the ensuing cost of booster pumps inter alia.

And I've missed my bath... again  evil:

Public Bath Houses?  eeek:  I could do with one of them right now, although having watched City of Vice last night I'm not too sure about the attendant services on offer at the Bagnio in Covent Garden  eyes:

As to the "where I've been" Q. I was, yet again, Christmassing (sp?) in Central America - the best sidestep available and since then it's been strange mayhem - viz.

The water ‘main’ here consists of a plastic pipe which winds its way around the village.

Builders discover its exact location by digging through it with a JCB backhoe and consequently we lose connection to the ‘main’ on a regular basis.

Luckily, we hold 1,000 litres of cold water, 250 litres of hot water and about 50 litres of drinking water in separate tanks so are rarely aware of the problem.  whistle:

And now with the pressure back on ( cloud9:) I discover that the connections to the toilet cistern have sprung a leak  Banghead

Not deterred, and definitely reluctant to pay emergency outcall rates to the exorbitant Plumbing-R-Us  ::), I have designed and made a temporary stopgap involving a mutilated plastic jug and reworked coathanger  8). The only flaw in the plan seems to be that I still have to flush the loo every 3 hours to slow down the drip...  surrender:
