Hellooooooooooooooooo! And thanks for the Flowers. You lot are lovely really.

The Hound is not yet

Update is that at 00.25 hours (Twentyfive past midnight) on last Wednesday night/Thursday morning I had a heart attack and was carted off to hospital .
Bit of a bugger really as I was sound asleep when it started. Anyway they (The Cardiologists) tell me it was only a little one (well we knew that  redface:) and that there is minimal further damage to the already damaged heart muscle. Asked for a likely continued life span expectation the Consultant said "As long as anyone gets ..... in other words I don't know, just keep taking the pills as there is no further intervention that I would recommend at this time ~ live each day as if it's your last and enjoy it but remember that you will probably see the day after as well so don't be stupid"

Instructions are to "rest often, don't do too much and don't worry"

I have to say that they have given me some new pills which are a bit OTT. If I'm not sat on the loo I am feeling high as a kite but they tell me those side effects will pass.  whistle:

Anyway it's good to be back at the pub, thanks for all your kind words. I'll not be here all day, as I used to be in the past, but I'll pop in as often as Mrs Snoopy AKA Head of the in-house nursing team (Gestapo) will allow.

Look out she is pulling into the drive as I type. See you all later.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Welcome back hound.

Drugs only, no procedures?

No procedures. Had bypass in 1998 but it didn't work and they say they cannot do better now. Had Angioplasty and stenting in 2005 which also didn't work as hoped and they say there is no point in repeating that exercise. Drugs seems to be the only alternative until the technology to grow new heart muscle and accompanying arteries is proven. Cardiologist reckons that is still years away despite claims made regularly in the Daily Mail that it is just around the corner. Drugs do work but the problem is that one either grows used to them and they become less effective or (as in my case with many of them) one reacts badly to a particular drug and the "cure" is worse than the problem. See John Diamond's books "C" and "SNAKE OIL and other preoccupations". John Diamond, for those who have forgotten him was husband of Nigella Lawson, who died of throat cancer in March 2001. I agree with him that one reaches a stage when you think "F*ck this, the side effects are worse than the illness" and stop taking the drugs.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

Yeah, we reached that point with my Dad. The choice came to a year of him vomiting and being in general discomfort or three months of enjoyment and no drugs and no side effects followed by palliative care. None of us had a problem with what he felt was the obvious choice.

I had the angioplasty 18 months ago and have had no problems since apart from the morning tirednes from the beta-blockers. Hospital doctor suggested taking the beta-blocker at night instead of the morning. May sound daft but it seems to have made a difference and I only changed on Sunday night.
For the first in a year I was up before 7!

Only problem is that I seem to be starving hungry when I wake up and not very hungry in the evening.

That would only encourage him to test Wenchys "stretchiness"!
