Dunno if it is SATA 1 or 2...

If it was working I could run the Intel utility which detects the chipset but of course it isn't  Banghead

The standard issue disk for the model then, ok that rules out drive size as there is a SATA driver update for your machine on the HP site but it looks like its for 512Gb drives
