Wasn't that long ago that children were made to write with their right hand
True but the cartoon clearly said 'Middle Ages'
I got whacked on my left hand regularly at primary school in the 1960s
I remember a lot of pressure being put on lefties in my third year (would have been 1959) but no whacking. I know contemporaries who are almost certainly naturally left handed (the putting a coat on and catch a ball tests) but were forced to be right handed.
Compared to what happened to way too many Greenland and Aboriginal kids I guess it was mild but it does show we really weren't too far from being appallingly oppressive within living memory. And of course there's the official Army SA80 rifle still in use and can only be fired right handed.
Not good
