Complicated families
« on: January 31, 2008, 01:03:49 PM »
I am sure that when I was growing up in the '50s it was simple. Now we have cohabitation, step-parents, divorcees, mobile children and, in my case, adoptees.

They do stuff at school on families. History and suchlike. It seems to be insensitive, despite their best efforts I am sure.

At home the Boy is an only child. He meets his sisters (x2) regularly. The other day I had to inform him that he has a third sister he has never met. HE can meet her when he is 18, or when she is. I know not which. Now his mother is pregnant again. So a new half-brother or sister is en route.

My eldest sister is on her second (suspicious) marriage. My other sister is terminally divorced. Everyone else in my immediate circle (with one exception) seems to be on marriage 2 or 3. And if they are on marriage 1 they are miserable.

My nephews are divorced and have custody of the children over their feckless wives. My aunts are growing old disgracefully having jettisoned the uncles. Every time the phone rings from the "family" I have to think about whose side I am on. Even my nice cousin is on husband #4 (and she lives near Snoopy!)

Is it just me|?

Its the Nick effect  whistle:
The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.

I was the first 'black sheep' in our family as I divorced Mr.LL the 1st back in 1981 - he was lucky to get away that lightly believe me  eveilgrin:

This was then followed by my sis in NZ divorcing her lanky Swiss git of a hubby aro 4 years later - he was playing away at home with the au pair for the second time - the fact that he had any opportunities to play away is beyond me because, as I told my little sis in NZ, he was a) tight as a ducks bum and b) Mr. Ugly (cross breed of Hitler/Basil Fawlty).

Met the wonderful  sick2: BaldyMort sometime around 84 and eventually (after years of his pleading) married him in 1994 - very (well mostly) happy but would I marry again (perchance something disastrous occurred with current martial bliss) NOT ON YOUR NELLY

Not at all Nick - that is life as we know it now cry:

Mind you not so sure it was simpler in days gone by. A few centuries ago you didn't get divorced then you just found some feeble excuse before executing redundant partners and then married their brothers or sisters. There were still lots of 'bastard' children in the world and the moral and ethical preachings were often quoted by the most corrupt and perverse individuals.
