Busby's Babes
« on: February 06, 2008, 04:46:36 PM »
Much has been written about the Munich air crash in 1958 and Manchester United's loss of the 'greatest team'  ever. The eight players are listed and lauded but who can name the other 15 poor sods who died in the same crash?

It's as if their deaths were of no consequence.  noooo:

Sad but true… all too often the death of a ‘celebrity’ takes precedence over that of us ordinary folk…  noooo:

Well said Uncle...

Frankly if it hadn't been for the footballers killed would any of us remember the crash at all. There were many air accidents before and many after Munich ..... who can name any of the fatalities in those?
Let's get really up to date .... can we name any of the 3500 people killed in the twin towers? Of course not but most will be able to name those singers killed with Buddy Holly in an air crash.

Jiles P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) Charles Holley (Buddy Holly), Richard Valenzuela (Ritchie Valens) and Roger A. Peterson (The Pilot)

Yes I had to look up the pilot but am certainly old enough to remember the "Day the Music Died" February 2nd 1959 and yes ~ I cried.

I've read much on the 8 players and 15 'others'.

Yep insignificant as they don't kick pigs bladders!

United have handled it well, the memorial plastered on the front of Old Trafford included the AIG logo.  United fans subsequently paintballed it.  United have also charged the beeb for footage.  Also, they are to ban any fan that doesn't observe the minute silence.  Is this legal?

Tossers!

Pretty sure that since the ground is technically private property they can ban anyone they like.

Fair enough, I want people banned for cheering Rooney, shouting the referee's a wanker etc.

What i am saying is that people have purchased tickets with numerous t's&c's; is this on there?

I am also not suggesting it shouldn't be observed just suggesting that MUFC are demanding respect that they are failing to show.

True but they have long been a law unto themselves.
"Ye cannae foul ma players but they can writhe on the ground and claim a penalty AND should be given one anytime we are losing ~ if ye dinnae I'll call the ref names at the apres match interview"
