Best things in life are free
« on: February 17, 2008, 07:25:23 PM »
Seeing as this little pub seems to thrive in the week and only has a little passing trade at the weekend, I assumed that Barman doesn't do Sunday lunches, so we stuck to our routine of going out for Sunday lunch every two or three weeks

A discovery a few months ago was the village of Turville on the Bucks/Oxon border where they filmed Vicar of Dibley and the windmill in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sits on top of the hill overlooking the village. The village has about two dozen properties and one pub... bliss

Anyway, the superb sunday lunch wasn't the free bit I alluded to. What you get to see are six or eight red kites performing there acrobatics through the valley all afternoon. We've seen this spectacle a few times now, but today we came a different route via West Wycombe and saw at least 40 of these magnificent birds together being fed by locals and giving me half an hour of fantastic entertainment. As I said, best things in life are free

I have spent a great deal of this afternoon watching a superb specimen of male Blackbird desperately trying to get his wing over a female Blackbird. He has pursued her all over our garden, in and out of the shrubs, along the fences, through the branches of the trees, he has put on his best puffing out his chest act etc and she has rejected him every time. Undaunted he has preened and sung and preened and sung some more. After more than three hours of this she consented and he is now one tired but very happy dicky bird.

Yes ~ life can be good if you have the time to see it.cloud9:

Best I can offer is a black cormorant all on his own, sitting on a rock off our local beach..... looked stunning tho'.   lol:

BLOODY BIG BUMP...
When we were in the garden this morning one appeared over the house  cloud9:, shortly after two more  cloud9: cloud9: cloud9:. They've stuck around most of the day, so no need to head out to Wantage, High Wycombe or even Wales now to photo these beautiful birds

Back to work tomorrow after a week off, talk about being brought back down to earth!

Come to North Wales (The top left hand corner) B@st@rd Kites all over the place. Can't even picnic up some of the hills for fear of yer sarnies being nicked by them.

Picnic on the beach and the bloody shitehawks get yer grub cussing:

Why people have to feed birds (see also New Forest Ponies) is beyond me ~ IT AIN'T NATURE'S WAY!
