Am I missing something here?
« on: February 22, 2008, 01:42:38 PM »
There is obviously something I'm not seeing here. Scrote attempts to murder a policeman over a car he had nicked and gets put in an OPEN prison allowing him to walk out and rape a 16 year old???

What the hell was he doing in an open prison in the first place?

Quote
A man who raped a schoolgirl after absconding from an open prison had previously gone on the run, the High Court in Edinburgh has heard.
Robert Foye, 28, admitted raping the 16-year-old in Cumbernauld in August, 2006 while serving a 10-year sentence for attempting to murder a detective.

Lady Smith said Foye had previously absconded from Castle Huntly in 2005.

The judge said he will be sentenced on 6 May and told him she was considering a life-long restriction order.

Lady Smith said Foye had been assessed as posing "a very high risk of further violent offending".

Urgent review

She called for a full report from a psychologist accredited by the Risk Management Authority.

The court heard Foye had promised not to abscond again and had tested positive for drugs before absconding for a second time.

Foye was allowed out of Castle Huntly, near Dundee, to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting but did not return.

He admitted raping the girl - six days later - on 24 August on a path near Dowanfield Road, Cumbernauld.

In January, Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill announced that an urgent review would be carried out to see what lessons could be learned.

Foye was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2002 for attempting to murder a detective who challenged him over a stolen car.

Allowed out to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting?  Where was he going to get booze in clink anyway?
Stupid question ..... sorry.

But anywhooo .... he had gone over the wall before but "promised not to do it again" and they believed him  eeek:
Has nobody explained to these people that criminals .... by definition ..... are not usually the most honest of people?

The problem is that we now have prisons that are more like hotels than anything else. Of course prisoners should have the chance to learn and train in the hopes that they can be rehabilitated but at the same time their stay in prison should also be extremely unpleasant to deter them from reoffending.

The whole system needs a good kick in the arse IMHO.

The system needs to be able to retrain and support criminals so they have no need to re-offend when they leave the clink (you didn’t expect me to say that did you?). Help, support, rehab, training and a job if necessary.

In return the criminal would understand with no ambiguity whatsoever that if he were re-convicted they’d throw the key away.

The problem these days is that there is no help for criminals or incentive not to re-offend.

A well known local villain and a couple of retired local cops used to drink together in our pub. One Friday night they were bemoaning the fact that there were few "Honest Criminals" left.
At the time I  eeek: but on  rubschin: I knew just what they meant ..... and they were right.
