They wouldn't take credit cards, cheques, maestro or anything sensible. Only a spanish cash card which none of us had.

How very odd.
I suppose they had been "caught out" in the past by some of the dodgy characters who used to hide out in Spain.

When I "arranged" Mum's funeral I did it "long distance" by 'phone from London with a local undertaker in Dorset who was happy to send me the bill and that didn't come until several weeks after the cremation. Dunno what he would have done if I hadn't paid. I like to think that she would have laughed at my suggestion, to my brother, that if we didn't pay the undertaker would try to piece the ashes back together. We did share the same warped sense of humour Mum and I.

When my daughter was buried they did it for free. They do that with babies cry:

She'd be 12 now

Actually, and this is for all, if you experience the death of a child it is the worst thing that can ever happen to you.

ANd since the worst thing that can ever happen has happened, nothing else holds any fear.

A life without fear is a rare experience, since most (no all) people fear something.

I imagine that it is. I can't obviously relate but losing a parent was bad enough and I imagine it is much worse.

But as you say pretty liberating. Although not at a price that anyone would want to pay.

I can see that.  I get scared just at the thought of anything happening to my two girls, I can't imagine what you must have felt. 

I am so sorry for your loss.  Nothing else could come close to this.

Well to get back on track .... perhaps you would like to borrow some brushes, a ladder and a roller. You will of course need a white van at some stage. There is clearly money in painting and NO TAX from the look of it.
