I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

We lived there once (long and very boring story) but I have to say I love the place.
We used to call it "Paradise"  redface:

Sad to see Arthur pop his clogs. Great scientist and thinker but not such a good Science Fiction writer. Great ideas but his story telling and characterisation was very poor. The only book of his I liked was "Childhood's End" It starts with giant alien spaceships appearing over Earth's major cities (Now who stole that idea  rubschin:)

No matter, his screenplay for 2001 forgives all.

Our house was in Freshwater ~ got caught by negative equity plus another  major family problem and had to sell at a loss and return to the mainland to recoup losses and start again.
Have often thought about going back but the cost of that tiny strip of water was a factor that made us chose North Wales. Cost of living and laid back (loads of old hippies "doing their own thing" both there and here) attitude makes the two places very similar in many respects.

"Sir Arthur has left written instructions that his funeral be strictly secular," his secretary, Nalaka Gunawardene, was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.

"Absolutely no religious rites of any kind, relating to any religious faith, should be associated with my funeral," she added.

Good man  happy088

Which reminds me of his saying, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

I don't think he ever lived on the Isle of Wight though.    ::)

Excellent - he's gone up in my estimations... or at least he would have had he not been somewhat dead...  noooo:

On The Avenue ... one of the terraced cottages in 1989/90. I had a lease on a lock up pub and Mrs S had a craft shop where she sold her own paintings and did glass engraving to impress the tourists. Unfortunately I had another pub on the mainland (The IoW one was seasonal) so I spent a lot of time driving, sailing, back and forth. Further details of that business venture will only be divulged via PM.
