Jerry Leiber, the songwriter who penned such classic rock and roll hits as Elvis Presley's Hound Dog and Jailhouse Rock, has died at the age of 78.

I heard that on the news this morning and I started to think of the lyrics ... imagine him sitting there, fountain pen in hand  rubschin:

"You, you are nothing but a dog, a dog crying whenever I gaze upon you"

No, that's not right ... we need some double negatives in there. Double negatives are hip and cool allegedly  8)

You ain't nothin' but a hound dog
Cryin' all the time
You ain't nothin' but a hound dog
Cryin' all the time
Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit
And you ain't no friend of mine

Well they said you was high-classed
Well, that was just a lie
Yeah they said you was high-classed
Well, that was just a lie
Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit
And you ain't no friend of mine
Like the Buddhist said to the hot dog vendor...
"Make me one with everything"

Nick Ashford of Ashford and Simpson also passed away last night. I only knew him for "Solid", I didn't know he'd penned hits like "Ain't no mountain high enough", and, "I'm every woman"
