I have just been told by the BBC that he was iconic.  Umm no I don't think that he was. Angry9:

I don't think he would have liked that description ~ he would have preferred "A comic" which he truly was. Not perhaps to everyone's taste but live, in cabaret or on stage, few could match his wit and the way he could "manage" an audience.

Vincent O'Brien, one of the most successful horse trainers of all time, died on Monday at the age of 92 at his home near Dublin, his family said.

A sad loss to the racing world. Very much a legend.

I found him very amusing; a memorable Charlie's Aunt.

I don't think so. It doesn't appear in his list of "credits"

I recall that one character in the Original Flying Doctor series (and there has been more than one although they changed the name on later series to The Flying Doctors) was an actor by the name of Dawson ~ a real Aussie who later popped up on "Emergency Ward Ten" along with Desmond Carrington

He seems to have been around forever though.

Update: Dawson was not one of the main characters in the Flying Doctor so perhaps he had a minor role or my memory is shot.
the main cast are given here and includes Patrick Troughton who went on to be a Dr Who!
